Garden Ceremonies in Toronto, have never been more Beautiful

George Allan generously donated his land in 1858 to the Horticultural Society of Toronto. The Allan Gardens is the most famous of Toronto’s conservatories because of its history. The renowned pavilion was shortly after in 1879. This pavilion is famous and hosted many gatherings such as concerts and balls to conventions, flower shows and wedding ceremonies.

In 1902 there was a fire that burned down most of the pavilion. The fire led to the remodel and growth of the gardens’ popularity. The city of Toronto designed the building that still stands today, known as the Palm house. Through the years, the Gardens have gotten some significant upgrades including more buildings and added wings to the current ones.

The Toronto Greenhouses

  • Two tropical greenhouses focus on plants such as orchids, bromeliads begonia and gesneriads.
  • The Cool Temperate house, for those plants from Australia and the Mediterranean.
  • The Palm House, with Varied palms, Bananas and tropical vines.
  • The tropical landscape house, which is home to those hibiscus and ginger type plants
  • The Arid House, Full of unique cacti and other succulent plants.

With so many options, this wedding venue is a high priority for green-thumbed brides. Keep in mind that this particular conservatory only holds 40 people per event and does not permit chairs. All of your guests will have to stand unless, of course, they are in a wheelchair. The whole venue is wheelchair accessible.  George Allan, who when donating the land, made a condition that it be free and available to everyone.

For outdoor weddings, at a public place, the city of Toronto requires a wedding permit. Make sure to book a decent amount of time as someone can book right after you. Meaning there isn’t a lot of buffer time. Make sure to plan if you have guests who like to show up late.  The wedding permit allows you to have 40 guests at the facility. This permit also allows you to have music from speakers that you provide for you to walk down the aisle. Make sure that it is soft music as not to bother other visitors. The City of Toronto staff reserves the right to ask you to leave; Should you be interrupting other guests’ enjoyment of the gardens.
